This information explains the differences between Geographic and Non-Geographic Telephone Numbers.
Geographic Telephone Numbers

Geographic Telephone Numbers are normal numbers usually issued by BT to home & business users attached to a PHYSICAL telephone line.

Calls to these numbers from normal landlines & mobiles billed as UK landline call.

Examples of Geographic Telephone Numbers are:-

0121 100 1234
0207 100 7890
0161 400 4567
0191 600 5432

Who Can Call a UK Geographic Number?
Anyone can call a UK Geographic Telephone Number - even from abroad, by simply inserting 0044 and dropping the leading 0 from the full number.

E-Phone users can now make use of Geographic numbers in their e-Phone or IP/Phone Adaptor. It will work in exactly the same way as a normal number - except you can take it with you anywhere in the world!

 

 


 
 
Geographic Telephone Numbers

Non-Geographic Telephone Numbers are numbers usually issued by BT to home & business users and pointed to a specific destination. They are not usually attached to a PHYSICAL telephone line.

Calls to these numbers from normal landlines & mobiles billed at differing national (0870/0871) or local (0845) rates.

Examples of UK Non-Geographic Telephone Numbers are:-

0870 100 1234
0871 400 6543
0845 100 8765
056 700 8765

Who Can Call a UK Non-Geographic Number?
UK landlines and mobiles can call a UK Geographic Telephone Number. Some international countries permit you to call an 0870 but this varies from country to country.

e-Phone users can now make use of Geographic numbers in their e-Phone or IP/Phone Adaptor. It will work in exactly the same way as a normal number - except you can take it with you anywhere in the world!
